PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT FOR THE LIBERATION OF ANGOLA M.P.L.A P.O. BOX 20793 Tel. 24292 DAR-ES-SALAAM WAR COMUNIQUE WITH THE RAINY SEASON HAMPERING THE MOVEMENT OF THE ENEMY, THE MPLA GUERRILA FORCES, OPERATING ON HTE EASTERN FRONT, IN CLOSER COOPERATION WITH OUR PEOPLE AND THE POPULAR MILITIA, INFLICT HEAVY CASUALITIES TO THE PORTUGUESE COLONIALISTS: 269 SALAZARIST TROOPS WIPPED OUT DURING THE SECOND FORTNITE OF AUGUST AND THE MONTH OF SEMPTEMBER.- On the 15th of August, 1967 at 7:30 A.M., on the right bank of KOMATO river two enemy platoons traveling on three UNIMOG lorries in a patrol mission of the area were ambushed by the MPLA guerrillas operating there. 30 (thirty) enemy soldiers were killed and several others wounded. On the next day at about 11:15 A.M., a group of 35 colonialist soldiers traveling on three vehicles on the road between the Posts of KANGOMBE and KANGAMBA were ambushed by a guerrilla detachment after they had burnt several houses in a village located near KATELE River. In this action 8 (eight) colonialist soldiers, including a second lieutenant, were wipped out and several wounded. On the 21st of August a band of Portuguese soldiers raided the village of KOWOLOLA and after having robbed the cattle, burnt the food and the houses of the People of the village they were forcing the population into one of the concentration camps located nearby. Surprised by the fire of the MPLA guerrillas operating in the area the enemy lost 26 (twenty-six) men, killed and several others wounded. On the 26th of the same month at approximately 7:45 A.M., a guerrilla detachment operating in the area around LUCHIVI River ambushed a platoon of salazarist troops marching towards the village of TCHAFUINDA where they expected to carry out one more of their criminal acts of repression. Ambushed by the MPLA guerrillas the colonialists lost 20 (twenty) men killed and others wounded. On the same day, after several engagements with the enemy in the area around CHIUME Post, at about 7:00 P.M, the combined forces of four MPLA detachments launching an attack and destroyed two enemy barracks housing the salazarist soldiers who disorderly disbanded under the fire of our guerrillas. On the 30th of August at around 8:00 A.M., four MPLA guerrilla detachments operating in the area of Lumbala fiercely struggle against a group of Portuguese soldiers traveling on a convoy composed of 8 lorries under the coverage of two bombers. In this engagement which lasted for about one hour, our heroic guerrillas put out of action 78 (seventy-eight) troops of the Portuguese expeditionary corps and wounded a good number of others. The intensive bombardment by the enemy planes rendered impossible the final assaoult by our forces. Two heroic sons of Angola who took part in this combat were lost and three more were slightly wounded. SEPTEMBER On the 2nd of September still on the area near TCHAFUINDA Village on the road connecting the villages of LUSO and LUCUSSE and enemy platoon in another attempt to take the local population into the concentration camp built in Lucusse was ambushed by the MPLA guerrillas operating in the area. Besides having foiled the enemy’s plan the MPLA guerrillas annihalated 19 and wounded several others of the salazarists. Three days later, on the 5th of September, at about 11:00 A.M. another band of enemy soldiers was attacked by the MPLA guerrillas near the LUMEJE River as they were moving towards the village of the same name. 20 (twenty) more colonialist soldiers were wipped out. Continuing their hateful acts of repression against defenseless villagers, two B27 flying over the abandoned village of MAZUNDO, on the 5th September at about 10:30 A.M. on the banks of NINDA River heavily bombed the area where a meeting was taking place. Lacking the necessary means to defend themselves the people assembled could not effectively repel the enemy. Eight of our best sons were wounded. Still on the same day the enemy aviation resumed its murderous acts, this time the enemy shelled the area between NINDA and LUATE Posts. Five patriots lost their lives, two adults and three children. On the 16th of September at about 7:15 A.M. an enemy vehicle carrying eight colonialists soldiers at a point, approximately 100 meters from the Post of KANGOMBE, was ambushed by a group of MPLA guerrillas. All the enemy soldiers were wipped out and the vehicle was totally damaged. All the weapons of the enemy were captured. On the 17th of September at around 3:40 A.M. the MPLA guerrillas using mortar fire launched an attack to an enemy installation near the post of LUMBALA. The electricity generator system was totally damaged and the petrol reservoirs set afire. Finally on the 20th of September two more engagements were carried out by the MPLA forces. The first took place at 12:40 approximately, when an enemy platoon fell into an ambush prepared by the MPLA guerrilla detachment operating in one of the advanced positions. The salazarist forces lost 10 (ten) of their men while several others were wounded. In this section an MPLA heroic guerrilla was lost. The second action occurred at 6:20 P.M. approximately near CHIKULU River when an enemy convoy composed of 5 lorries covered by 2 B27 planes travelling from NINDA to MUIE Posts fell into an ambush carefully prepared by the MPLA guerrilla forces. In this battle the MPLA guerrillas annihilated 50 (fifty) salazarist troops and wounded a large number of others. Some weapons and communication were captured, among these 5 grenades, one Belgian-male FW filled cartridge and 2 U.S.-made rockets of 15 kilograms each. VICTORY OR DEATH! VICTORY IS SURE!
