Declaração do MPLA sobre circulação dos militantes do MPLA na RDC

BOX 20793 Tel. 24292 DAR ES SALAAM STATEMENT BY THE MPLA ON THE FORECOMING SUMMIT CONFERENCE OF THE O.A.U The PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT FOR THE LIBERATION OF ANGOLA (MPLA) declares that due to the inexistance of security conditions for the militants of the MPLA in the territory of Congo (Kinshasa) the Movement cannot take part, as an observer, at the Heads of State and Government Conference of the CAU expected to convene text September in Kinshasa. In effect, more than 50 militants on the MPLA are being detained in subterranean jails in the KINKUZU base in the BAS-CONGO Province, amongst whom is the Commander JOÃO GONÇALVES BENEDITO and five young women. All the active militants of the MPLA were either arrested or expelled from Congolese territory. This situation does not, by any means, correspond to the promises made to the MPLA by certain members of the Congolese government on the occasion of the meeting of the United Nations Decolonization Committee in Kinshasa. Up to this moment, the Congolese authorities do not allow the MPLA militants to transit through the territory of the Republic, in order to reach and replenish our combat zones in Angola, despite the fact that the Democratic Republic of the Congo is a member of the OAU African Liberation Committee. Forced to be absent from the Kinshasa Conference, the MPLA appeals one again to the African Heads of State and Government to seek a solution for this pressing matter, from which results not only the retardation of the struggle for national liberation in Angola, but whereby also tens of sincere Angolan patriots are, paradoxically, made to suffer in jails; patriots whose crime was only to combat against the Portuguese colonialists for the Independence of Angola, and so contributing for the total liberation of our continent.
