WAR COMMUNIQUE
EASTERN FRONT

Becoming desperate faced with the increasing activities of the MPLA guerrillas, the Portuguese are resorting to all kinds of violent attacks on the population of Angola in the hope of preventing their being drawn into the revolutionary struggle by our guerrillas. Having already burned the people´s houses, killed their cattle, the Portuguese are now openly bombing villages. This barbarous act, is a repetition of what happened in the North of Luanda, earlier at the beginning of the Revolution on the 4th February, 1961.
In this way, ON 28TH AUGUST, 1966, at 1.15 pm., na aeroplane bombed the Mambulo village, in the Luena´s region. Some people was killed, including Chief Mambulo himself, and others wounded. Acting as true soldiers of the people, the MPLA guerrillas immediately decided to avenge the death of their brothers. An ambush was prepared, and at 2.30 pm., four of the seven Portuguese military transport that had been sent with troops to conclude the destruction of the Mambulo village, fell into that ambush. That remaining three vehicles retreated. THIRTY (30) Portuguese soldiers were killed and several others wounded. There was no casualties amongst the MPLA guerrillas.
